Jahana Hayes, a U.S. Congress representative for Connecticut's 5th district, shared several insights via her Twitter account recently. Serving in Congress since 2019, she has been vocal on issues from political accountability to public health.

On April 11, Hayes concluded a town hall meeting, thanking attendees and commenting on the swift passage of time during the event. "And that’s a wrap. Thanks for tuning in to tonight’s townhall. Ninety minutes went by so fast."

Later the same day, she addressed her followers on the importance of congressional oversight in the economic realm, emphasizing the need for checks and balances on presidential power. "An economy cannot be based on the impulsive whims of a single person, and it is our role as members of Congress to have oversight authority and a check and balance on the President."

The following day, Hayes participated in #BlackMaternalHealthWeek, highlighting alarming disparities in maternal health outcomes between Black women and their white counterparts. She urged for increased awareness and solutions to bridge these gaps. "It is #BlackMaternalHealthWeek. Black women die in childbirth at a rate ~3x higher than white women. This #BMHW25, we raise awareness about maternal health disparities and work to find solutions that improve outcomes for Black women & women of color."

Hayes, originally from Waterbury, Connecticut, and currently residing in Wolcott, has a history of engaging with critical socio-political issues during her tenure in Congress. She replaced previous U.S Congress member Elizabeth Esty in 2019. Hayes received her Bachelor of Arts from Southern Connecticut State University in 2005.
