Jahana Hayes, currently serving as the U.S. Congress representative for Connecticut’s 5th District, has been active on social media discussing matters of local and national importance. Her recent posts highlight her involvement in veteran commemoration, address concerns regarding federal assistance programs, and emphasize support for educational staff.
On April 7, 2025, Hayes attended a memorial with the Waterbury Veterans Memorial Committee to honor Reverend Lieutenant Thomas Michael Conway, a native of Waterbury who died during World War II. In her tweet, Hayes emphasized Connecticut's rich history of military service, stating, "Alongside the Waterbury Veterans Memorial Committee, we remembered Reverend Lieutenant Thomas Michael Conway, a Waterbury native who sacrificed his life in World War II. Connecticut is home to many generations of veterans, all of whom we are grateful for having answered the call."
Also, on April 7, 2025, Hayes expressed her concerns over the suspension of $500 million from The Emergency Food Assistance Program in March. Joining 101 House Democrats, Hayes called for accountability from the USDA, tweeting, "In March, $500M was suspended for The Emergency Food Assistance Program which enables food banks & emergency food providers to connect those most at risk of hunger with fresh foods. I joined 101 @HouseDemocrats in demanding answers from @USDA on why this funding was stopped & how."
Later the same day, April 7, 2025, she highlighted the role of paraprofessionals and student support personnel. Her resolution aims to formally recognize these individuals’ contributions to education. In her words, "Paraprofessionals and other student support personnel spend each day supporting students and teachers. My resolution recognizes their invaluable efforts and reminds us to care for them as they care for our students."
