Jahana Hayes, a U.S. Congress member representing Connecticut's 5th district since 2019, shared her experiences and concerns regarding recent developments at the Department of Education through a series of tweets. The congresswoman has been vocal about the potential implications for children's education if changes are made to federal agencies.

On February 7, 2025, Hayes tweeted about attending a press conference at the Department of Education alongside colleagues. She expressed concern over the potential harm to children should the department be eliminated, emphasizing that "Congress has oversight responsibilities and we must be part of any conversation about the future of a federal agency." "I attended a press conference at @usedgov with colleagues to call out the harm that would be done to our children if the Department were eliminated."

Later that day, Hayes reported an incident where she was denied entry to the Department of Education by an individual who did not disclose his title. She stated that "the @DHSgov was called to enforce that denial," highlighting concerns about access issues faced by members of Congress as Elon Musk allegedly implements changes within federal agencies. "(1/2) I was denied entry to @usedgov by someone who refused to give me his title and the @DHSgov was called to enforce that denial."

In another tweet posted simultaneously, Hayes asserted her commitment to advocating for educational protection using legislative measures available to her. She affirmed her determination not "to go away quietly" in addressing these challenges."(2/2) I will not go away quietly and will continue to use every legislative tool at my disposal to ensure education is protected for our children."
