Jahana Hayes, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 5th district since 2019, has recently voiced her concerns on social media regarding significant Medicaid cuts and expressed gratitude for law enforcement personnel. Hayes, born in Waterbury, Connecticut in 1973 and currently residing in Wolcott, graduated from Southern Connecticut State University with a BA in 2005.
On May 12, 2025, Hayes addressed potential reductions to Medicaid funding by stating that “$880B Medicaid cuts pose a serious threat to vulnerable populations.” She emphasized the importance of Home & Community-Based Services for seniors’ dignity and independence and argued against dismantling Medicaid.
Later that day, Hayes questioned who in Connecticut might lose healthcare due to these proposed Republican-led cuts. She stated that “House Democrats are fighting to strengthen Medicaid & protect care for those who need it the most.”
On May 13, 2025, during National Police Week, Hayes extended her appreciation to law enforcement officers nationwide and within her district. She tweeted “I extend my deepest gratitude to the brave men & women of law enforcement in #CT05 & nationwide.” Her message highlighted their commitment to public safety.
