Jahana Hayes, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 5th district, shared several updates on social media regarding her ongoing initiatives and legislative concerns. These posts reflect her active engagement with constituents and advocacy on key policy issues.

On May 14, 2025, Hayes announced an event titled “Casework On Your Corner,” where her team would be available to meet constituents in Simsbury at Eno Memorial Hall from 11 AM to 4 PM. She stated, “Our Casework On Your Corner team will see you TODAY in Simsbury at Eno Memorial Hall from 11 AM to 4 PM.”

Later that day, Hayes expressed her opposition to proposed cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP). In a tweet posted at 15:46 UTC, she argued against reducing SNAP benefits for tax breaks for the wealthy. She emphasized the importance of SNAP for many residents by stating, “We should be strengthening SNAP, not cutting it for tax breaks for the ultrawealthy. There are 390,000 residents in Connecticut & millions of Americans who use SNAP as a lifeline.” She highlighted its impact on individuals like Luna from Plainville.

In another post made at 16:10 UTC on May 14, Hayes criticized legislation proposed by Republicans that would lower the age of a minor from age 18 to age seven. This change could result in parents losing SNAP benefits if they fail to meet work requirements once their child turns seven. Hayes warned about this proposal with urgency by saying, “Republicans have put forth legislation that lowers the age of a minor from age 18 to age 7.”

Jahana Hayes has been serving in Congress since replacing Elizabeth Esty in 2019 and represents Connecticut’s diverse interests while residing in Wolcott.
