Jahana Hayes, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 5th district, shared several updates from her day through social media on April 16, 2025. Hayes, who has served in Congress since 2019, provides insights into her activities, highlighting her focus on social issues and state development.
On the morning of April 16, Hayes began her day in Danbury alongside State Comptroller Sean Scanlon, Mayor Alves, state elected officials, and service providers. At the roundtable, they discussed the potential negative impacts of attempts to cut Medicaid and the respective federal and state responses. Later in the day, Hayes celebrated the opening of a new small business in her district. She announced the renovation of the Belden House & Mews, an 1888 Litchfield Victorian mansion, into a 31-room hotel. This project was supported by $4.6 million in federal and state Historic Preservation Tax credits. Hayes said, “We welcomed another small business in #CT05 – Belden House & Mews.”
Hayes also shared a snapshot of her day, which included discussions with the Connecticut Bar Association. She expressed support for the Legal Services Corporation program, which provides free legal representation for civil cases, helping more than 2,270 cases in her district. Hayes described, “A snapshot of my day, which usually includes taking meetings on the go. In this shot I caught up with the CT Bar Association to share support for the Legal Services Corporation program that helps provide free legal representation for civil cases including more than 2,270 in #CT05.”
Hayes, born in Waterbury, Connecticut, in 1973 and currently living in Wolcott, graduated with a BA from Southern Connecticut State University in 2005.
