Jahana Hayes, U.S. Congresswoman representing Connecticut’s 5th district since 2019, highlighted recent legislative efforts and community initiatives in a series of posts on August 19, 2025.
In one post, Hayes described the work of a local non-profit: ” Operation Hold Your Horses in #Harwinton fosters and rehabilitates horses from across the region. This veteran-owned non-profit offers educational and equine-assisted learning programs.” (August 19, 2025)
She also addressed her proposed legislation aimed at supporting educators: “My bill, the RAISE Act, aims to create a tax credit for public school teachers and close the wage gap facing the profession. Investing in the financial stability of educators is an investment in our schools, communities, and students.” (August 19, 2025)
Additionally, Hayes commented on the challenges faced by teachers who purchase classroom supplies out-of-pocket: “Expecting teachers to pay out-of-pocket for supplies causes financial hardship and drives qualified educators away from the profession when we need great teachers now more than ever.” (August 19, 2025)
Hayes was born in Waterbury, Connecticut in 1973 and currently resides in Wolcott. She earned her BA from Southern Connecticut State University in 2005. She succeeded Elizabeth Esty as representative of Connecticut’s 5th District.
