Jahana Hayes, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 5th district since 2019, has shared updates on her recent activities and initiatives through social media posts. Born in Waterbury, Connecticut in 1973, Hayes currently resides in Wolcott and holds a BA from Southern Connecticut State University.

On December 11, 2024, Hayes announced her legislative initiative to support farmers affected by adverse weather conditions. She stated, “Farmers in my district and across the country have experienced cold snaps, record flooding, & extreme storm damage. I’m introducing the Helping America’s Farmers Act to authorize @USDA to provide up to $10B in loans to assist farms impacted by disasters.”

The following day, December 12, 2024, Hayes attended an event at the Children’s Community School (CCS) in Waterbury. She remarked on the experience via social media: “We celebrated the new location of Children’s Community School (CCS) #Waterbury by attending a student-led tour. Throughout the visit, we connected with dedicated students, teachers and staff. We left feeling inspired by the CCS 55-year legacy in education.”

On December 13, 2024, Hayes commemorated an important milestone for civil rights legislation. Reflecting on its significance she wrote: “On December 13th, 2022, the Respect for Marriage Act was signed into law. This historic bill enshrined critical protections for same-sex and interracial marriages. House Democrats will continue to value diversity and fight for equality for all.”
