Jahana Hayes, U.S. Congresswoman representing Connecticut’s 5th district since 2019, posted a series of statements on social media highlighting her ongoing efforts in support of workers’ rights, educational staff recognition, and affordable housing initiatives.
On May 1, 2026, Hayes marked International Workers Day by stating: “On #InternationalWorkersDay, we honor the legacy and bravery of workers throughout history who fought for workplace rights and dignity. As a member of the @Labor_Caucus, I am committed to securing a living wage, ensuring workplace safety, and protecting the right to organize.”
Later that day, she emphasized the role of specialized instructional support staff in education: “Specialized instructional support staff are essential in bridging students, educators, families, and communities the resources needed to thrive. I introduced the resolution recognizing the more than one million Specialized Instructional and the work they do for our communities.”
On May 2, 2026, Hayes reported on her team’s participation at a local event in Simsbury: “Our team attended the Willow Arms groundbreaking in #Simsbury. This 81-unit affordable housing community was made possible by the Federal Low Income Tax Credit, along with critical state and local stakeholders. Willow Arms reflects how communities can be uplifted through public”.
Hayes has represented Connecticut’s 5th District since replacing Elizabeth Esty in 2019. Born in Waterbury in 1973 and currently residing in Wolcott at age 50, she earned her BA from Southern Connecticut State University in 2005.
