Jahana Hayes, U.S. Congresswoman representing Connecticut’s 5th district since 2019, marked Labor Day with a series of posts on social media highlighting the importance of workers and workforce development programs.
In a post dated September 1, 2025, Hayes stated, “On #LaborDay, we celebrate the achievements of workers and their contributions to the strength and prosperity of our nation.”
Later that day, she recognized local labor organizations by sharing, “CT AFL-CIO celebrated workers at their Annual Labor Day Breakfast. Together, we are fighting to protect the right to organize, collectively bargain & strengthen workplace safety.” This comment referenced ongoing efforts in Connecticut to uphold labor rights and workplace protections.
Addressing education and job training opportunities, Hayes posted on September 1: “Pell Grants & apprenticeship programs are proven pathways for success. The Trump Administration is cutting funding and blocking these important education and workforce development opportunities.”
Hayes has represented Connecticut’s 5th District in Congress since succeeding Elizabeth Esty in 2019. Born in Waterbury in 1973 and currently residing in Wolcott, she graduated from Southern Connecticut State University with a BA in 2005.
