Jahana Hayes, U.S. Congresswoman representing Connecticut’s 5th district since 2019, used her social media accounts to highlight activities honoring veterans and legislative efforts in Washington, D.C.
On November 11, 2025, Hayes marked Veterans Day by visiting a local facility. She posted: “At the Bethel Health Care Center for a Veterans Day Celebration. All Americans deserve access to high-quality, affordable healthcare, especially the veterans who sacrificed for our country.”
Later that day, she attended another event recognizing Connecticut’s veteran community. In her post dated November 11, 2025, Hayes wrote: “CT is home to nearly 60,000 veterans who served during World War II, Vietnam War and the Korean War. I joined Lt Gov Bysewivkz and CT Veterans Affairs in Newtown to honor these veterans, many of whom did not receive the proper recognition they deserved when they first arrived”.
The following day on November 12, 2025, Hayes documented her legislative work in Washington with another post: “Made it to DC after midnight to offer my SNAP amendment before the Rules Cmte”.
Connecticut is home to approximately 60,000 veterans from major conflicts including World War II and Vietnam. Many of these individuals have advocated for improved recognition and benefits over time. Jahana Hayes has been an advocate for both veterans’ issues and food security measures during her tenure in Congress.
Born in Waterbury in 1973 and currently residing in Wolcott, Hayes holds a BA from Southern Connecticut State University (2005). She succeeded Elizabeth Esty as representative of Connecticut’s 5th district in 2019.
