Jahana Hayes, U.S. Congresswoman representing Connecticut’s 5th district since 2019, recently highlighted legislative efforts and constituent services in a series of posts on her official Twitter account.
On January 13, 2026, Hayes announced her collaboration with Rep. Chuy Garcia to introduce new legislation aimed at supporting education staff: “Paraprofessionals and student support personnel work to assist students & teachers in the classroom. I joined @RepChuyGarcia to introduce the Pay Paraprofessionals & Education Support Staff Act to ensure they are compensated and recognized for their work helping all students”.
The following day, Hayes informed constituents about local assistance opportunities: “Need help with a federal agency? ‌Our Case Work On Your Corner team will see you TODAY at Eno Memorial Hall in Simsbury from 11 AM to 4 PM.” (January 14, 2026).
Later that afternoon, she marked the anniversary of a key educational law while warning against proposed changes: “For 50 years, the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) has provided children with special needs a free and appropriate education. Continuous efforts to dismantle the Dept. of Education threaten the vital services 7.5M students receive.” (January 14, 2026).
Hayes was born in Waterbury, Connecticut in 1973 and currently resides in Wolcott. She earned her BA from Southern Connecticut State University in 2005. Before entering Congress by succeeding Elizabeth Esty in 2019, Hayes had an extensive background in education.
