Jahana Hayes, U.S. Congresswoman representing Connecticut’s 5th district since 2019, highlighted key legislative and community initiatives in a series of posts on her social media account this week.
On April 13, Hayes addressed disparities in maternal health outcomes during Black Maternal Health Week. She stated, “It’s Black Maternal Health Week. Black women in the United States are 3x’s more likely to die from pregnancy-related complications than white women. My legislation, the Social Determinants for Moms Act, and other bills in the Momnibus package would address this reality and end https://t.co/cDf3FdXVrU”.
The following day, on April 14, Hayes discussed ongoing challenges faced by students as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. She wrote, “6 years later, the lasting impacts from the pandemic can still be felt by students. I introduced the Educational Equity Challenge Grant Act to address the chronic absenteeism, lower reading scores, and increased mental health challenges facing students across CT and the country. https://t.co/WbT7CEZIu0”.
Later that same day, Hayes summarized her recent activities with a weekly update: “Another week, another wrap.
