Jahana Hayes, U.S. Congresswoman representing Connecticut’s 5th district since 2019, highlighted several workforce and education initiatives in a series of posts on April 15 and 16, 2026.
On April 15, Hayes posted about a discussion with the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers (SMART) General President Michael Coleman. She wrote: “Representing 230,000 workers across the U.S. and Canada, the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers (SMART) General President Michael Coleman joined the @Labor_Caucus for a conversation spanning the importance of apprenticeship programs to”.
The following day, Hayes recognized Connecticut students working in Washington D.C., posting: “The CT delegation came together to recognize the more than 80 students from CT, studying at area colleges & universities, working internships & fellowships, and seizing every opportunity on Capitol Hill. So much talent from our small state preparing to be catalyst for global”.
Later on April 16, she promoted her legislative work on youth job training programs: “YouthBuild programs across the country transform the lives of young people by helping participants earn diplomas and confidently step into high-demand careers. I introduced the YouthBuild for the Future Act, which makes key improvements to the job-training program & provides”.
Hayes was born in Waterbury, Connecticut in 1973 and currently resides in Wolcott. She graduated from Southern Connecticut State University with a BA in 2005. Before her election to Congress—replacing Elizabeth Esty—she worked as an educator. As representative for Connecticut’s 5th District since 2019, Hayes has focused on education policy and workforce development initiatives.
