Jahana Hayes, U.S. Congresswoman representing Connecticut’s 5th district since 2019, shared a series of updates and reflections on her official Twitter account this week, addressing constituents and acknowledging recent honors.
On August 28, 2025, Hayes marked the anniversary of the March on Washington by quoting Martin Luther King Jr.: “Let us not wallow in the valley of despair, I say to you today, my friends. So even though we face the difficulties of today and tomorrow, I still have a dream.” – Martin Luther King Jr. March on Washington, Aug. 28, 1963.
The following day, August 29, she informed residents about an upcoming opportunity for assistance with federal agencies: “Need assistance with a federal agency? Our Case Work On Your Corner team is here to help. Tuesday, September 2 11:00AM – 4:00PM Meriden City Hall, Mayor’s Conference Room, 142 E Main St No appointment necessary.”
Later that same day, Hayes expressed gratitude for being recognized as a Woman of Inspiration by the Connecticut Sun and Post University: “Thank you #CTSun & @PostUniversity for honoring me as a Woman of Inspiration. I hope this ‘letter to my younger self’ provides encouragement and perspective for young people on their journey. #BringTheHeat ”
Hayes was born in Waterbury, Connecticut in 1973 and currently resides in Wolcott. She earned her BA from Southern Connecticut State University in 2005 before entering public service. Since succeeding Elizabeth Esty in Congress in 2019, Hayes has been active both legislatively and within her community.
