Jahana Hayes, U.S. Congresswoman representing Connecticut’s 5th district, posted a series of updates on social media regarding recent legislative actions and community developments between January 8 and January 9, 2026.
On January 8, Hayes announced the passage of an extension for Affordable Care Act subsidies, stating: “After forcing a vote House Democrats have passed a three year extension of Affordable Care Act subsidies https://t.co/SzyhNkxvj3 https://t.co/D0pMJjeq3X”.
The following day, Hayes commented on committee activity in Congress involving education and workforce issues. She wrote: “The Ed & Workforce Committee considered two very different bills yesterday. A bipartisan measure which provides education for Dep. of Labor staff to detect human trafficking and legislation that would worsen outcomes for pregnant and parenting students. I was sure to weigh in on https://t.co/LJ5dWJun7c” (January 9).
Later that same day, she highlighted a local event in her home state: “We welcomed CT Legal Services to their new office in downtown Waterbury. What a great resource for the community. https://t.co/jcoq2o8y5k” (January 9).
Hayes has served as Connecticut’s representative for the 5th district since replacing Elizabeth Esty in 2019 and currently resides in Wolcott. Born in Waterbury in 1973, she earned her BA from Southern Connecticut State University in 2005.
