Jahana Hayes, U.S. Congresswoman representing Connecticut’s 5th district since 2019, highlighted community and policy developments in a series of social media posts this week.
On October 16, Hayes posted about legislative efforts regarding health care: “House Democrats held another Steering & Policy hearing this week to gather testimonials from those who will be impacted if ACA tax credits are allowed to expire. The urgency is clear and the time to negotiate is now.”
The following day, October 17, she congratulated an educator in her district: “Something’s happening at The Park! Join me in congratulating the 2026 CT Teacher of the Year~ Rogers Park Middle School 6th grade Social Studies teacher Brian Betesh. The students and Danbury community are so proud that the entire state is learning what they already know!”
In a subsequent post on the same day, Hayes added context about local leadership and education: “Brian Betesh and Roberto Alves both went to Rogers Park Middle School together. Mr Betesh returned and has been teaching there for 19 years and is now the 2026 CT Teacher of the Year. Roberto Alves is Mayor of Danbury. Like I said, something’s happening at The Park!!”
Hayes, who was born in Waterbury, Connecticut in 1973 and currently resides in Wolcott, has emphasized her ongoing commitment to both education and healthcare issues throughout her tenure in Congress. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from Southern Connecticut State University in 2005.
