Jahana Hayes, Congresswoman representing Connecticut’s 5th district, recently shared updates on her activities via social media. Hayes, who succeeded Elizabeth Esty in 2019, continues to engage with various stakeholders as part of her ongoing legislative and community efforts.

On April 24, 2025, Hayes tweeted about a meeting with PhD students from the Ecological Society of America, stating, “During their visit to Capitol Hill, PhD students from the Ecological Society of America met with us to discuss the ecological & biological sciences and how they can offer valuable insights for addressing environmental issues.”

Later that day, she highlighted a visit from Family Forward Advocacy CT, Inc., emphasizing child welfare reform. In her tweet, she noted, “Family Forward Advocacy CT, Inc. visited to underscore the importance of child welfare reform. Approximately 3,000 CT children are in foster care, it is our responsibility to support and care for these children.”

That evening, Hayes celebrated a ceremonial event at the UConn Waterbury campus, marking the opening of the Neil O’Leary Building. She tweeted, “The ribbon was cut to officially name the Neil O’Leary Building on the UConn Waterbury campus. We are excited to see this new home to several educational programs such as UConn Health & the Waterbury Robotics Institute bear the name of one of the strongest supporters of education.”
