Jahana Hayes, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 5th District since 2019, shared insights and calls to action through a series of tweets on May 4 and 5, 2025.
On May 4, Hayes reflected on an event at the Avon VFW monthly meeting where she celebrated the contributions of local community members. She wrote, “An inspiring night at the #Avon VFW monthly meeting where we honored a remarkable Avon High School student for her dedication to mental health awareness and recognized exceptional VFW members for their service.”
The following day, May 5, she emphasized the importance of educators during Teachers Appreciation Week. Hayes stated, “Leading the way, educators guide, protect, nurture, & support students, readying them for bright futures. This #TeachersAppreciationWeek, let us turn appreciation into action to protect students, strengthen public schools, & ensure educators receive the respect they deserve.”
Later that same day, Hayes addressed labor relations in her district by urging dialogue between key stakeholders in aerospace manufacturing. She tweeted, “I urge Pratt & Whitney and the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers to return to the negotiating table.”
Jahana Hayes was born in Waterbury, Connecticut in 1973 and resides in Wolcott. She holds a Bachelor’s degree from Southern Connecticut State University.
