Jahana Hayes, U.S. Congresswoman representing Connecticut’s 5th district since 2019, has recently used her social media platform to highlight legislative efforts and voice concerns about federal education policy.

On December 4, 2025, Hayes posted about being recognized for her work related to HIV/AIDS. She stated, “In recognition of World AIDS Day, I was presented with an award from the National Minority AIDS Council for the work of the Congressional HIV/AIDS Caucus. Taking legislative action and supporting research & funding to fight this epidemic, that still claims the lives of more than”.

The following day, on December 5, 2025, Hayes shared her continued advocacy for military families in Congress. She wrote, “I appeared again before the House Committee on Veterans Affairs to plead the case for my bipartisan Caring for Survivors Act to get a floor vote. On December 6, 2025, Hayes criticized actions by federal officials regarding education policy. She posted, “The Trump administration is speeding up efforts to dismantle the Department of Education without Congressional approval. Day to day operations have been shifted to other agencies with no explanation of how they will be implemented and the needs of students met “.

Hayes succeeded Elizabeth Esty in Congress in 2019 and has focused on issues including public health and veterans’ affairs during her tenure. Born in Waterbury in 1973 and currently residing in Wolcott, she graduated from Southern Connecticut State University with a Bachelor’s degree in 2005.
