Jahana Hayes, U.S. Congresswoman representing Connecticut’s 5th district since 2019, recently used her social media platform to address a range of issues including healthcare funding, domestic violence awareness, and the impact of a government shutdown.
On October 15, 2025, Hayes criticized federal spending priorities by stating, “$40 billion is enough to extend ACA premium tax credits for 2 years. This administration would rather bail out Argentina, than make sure Americans have access to affordable healthcare. Apparently we have the money…. it’s the will that’s lacking. Let that sink in.”
Later that day, she highlighted efforts by members of Congress to raise awareness about domestic violence: “Today the Democratic Women’s Caucus wore purple because October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month — an issue that impacts millions each year. It is never too late to ask for help. If you or a loved one is experiencing domestic violence, call the 24-hour National Domestic” (October 15, 2025).
On October 16, Hayes shared information from a recent event focused on public policy and social programs during a government shutdown: “The Hub Project and Unrig Our Economy hosted a call to break down the impact of the government shutdown. ACA tax credits, WIC, SNAP and the erosion of public trust were among the topics discussed. Participants from around the country expressed fear, frustration and legitimate”.
Hayes has represented Connecticut’s 5th District since succeeding Elizabeth Esty in 2019 and resides in Wolcott after being born in Waterbury in 1973. She holds a BA from Southern Connecticut State University earned in 2005.
