Jahana Hayes, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 5th district, has shared a series of updates on her activities via social media. These updates touch on issues surrounding HBCUs, the recognition of Black servicewomen in World War II, and her upcoming media appearance.
On April 29, Hayes reported participating in discussions with HBCU leadership, students, and advocacy organizations. She addressed how “Congress can address the disparate funding of HBCUs and improve campus issues such as food & housing insecurity.” The intent behind such discussions is to pinpoint and rectify inequalities these institutions face.
Later that day, Hayes shared news about a significant historical tribute. She acknowledged the contributions of the “historic Six Triple Eight – the largest group of Black servicewomen to serve overseas during World War II” and shared that they were honored with a Congressional Gold Medal Ceremony. Hayes emphasized the importance of this tribute as a commitment to “carrying their legacy forward.”
On April 30, Hayes informed constituents about her media engagement, stating, “TODAY at 3:30PM EST, I will be on @SIRIUSXM with the @karenhunter Show to talk about how recent actions of the Trump Admin are negatively impacting our communities.” This appearance provides Hayes a platform to discuss the current political strategies and their effects.
