Jahana Hayes, U.S. Congresswoman representing Connecticut’s 5th district since 2019, shared updates on constituent concerns and her recent activities in a series of posts this week.
On April 7, Hayes addressed calls to her office about the ongoing conflict in Iran and referenced a conversation with a local resident: “Stephanie from Weatogue, was among the callers expressing concern about the war in Iran. I was happy to hear from her and encourage others to call their elected officials and make their voices heard.”
Later that day, she commented on public reaction to statements made by President Trump: “Calls coming into my office all day about President Trump’s tweet that a ‘whole civilization will die tonight.’ Here I break down what I’m hearing and my thoughts on what Congress can do in this moment. The in-district work week needs to end and Speaker Johnson should be calling”.
On April 9, Hayes highlighted her visit to Central Connecticut State University’s Veteran Drop-in Center: “I was humbled by the opportunity to visit CCSU Veteran Drop-in center and hear from student veterans and other service members. The Office of Veterans Affairs on campus offers this center as a place for these students to study, network and access other veteran related activities.”
Hayes has represented Connecticut’s 5th District since replacing Elizabeth Esty in 2019. Born in Waterbury in 1973, she resides in Wolcott. She graduated from Southern Connecticut State University with a BA in 2005.
