Jahana Hayes, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 5th district since 2019, has taken to social media to share her ongoing advocacy and engagement with various community and industry stakeholders. Hayes, who succeeded Elizabeth Esty in her congressional role, continues to focus on issues pertinent to her constituents.
On May 18, 2025, Hayes reflected on the historical significance of the Head Start program, established in 1965 to address widespread poverty. In her tweet “OTD in 1965, the Head Start program was created in an effort to curb wide-spread poverty. 60 years later, as similar economic pressure persists, and child care is harder to find & afford, I will continue to advocate for those this program was created to serve.”, she reiterated her commitment to supporting those originally intended to benefit from this initiative.
Later that day, Hayes engaged with the Cheese Importers Association of America regarding tariff impacts. She stated “Discussed the impact of tariffs with the Cheese Importers Association of America who rely heavily on imported products. The dairy and agriculture industries are crucial to #CT05, and hearing from them is important for informing my legislative actions.” This interaction underscores her attentiveness to local industries vital to Connecticut’s economy.
In another post from May 18th, Hayes mentioned meeting with members of the Appraisal Institute about modernizing real estate licensing systems. Her tweet “With nearly 23,000 members worldwide, the Appraisal Institute works to uphold ethics and standards in property valuation. Members met with our team to advocate for the Appraisal Licensing Act, which modernizes the real estate licensing system.” highlights efforts towards enhancing professional standards within property valuation.
Jahana Hayes was born in Waterbury, Connecticut in 1973 and currently resides in Wolcott. She holds a BA from Southern Connecticut State University since 2005.
