Jahana Hayes, U.S. Congresswoman representing Connecticut’s 5th district since 2019, issued a series of statements on April 30, 2026, via her official Twitter account regarding recent legislative actions in the House.
In one post dated April 30, 2026, Hayes stated: “The Farm, Food, and National Security Act cements the $187B in cuts to SNAP and fails to substantively address the issues before the agricultural economy. Later that day, she addressed the end of a partial Department of Homeland Security (DHS) shutdown with another tweet posted at 18:16 UTC: “Finally, after 75 days of a partial DHS shutdown, legislation was passed by voice vote to end the shutdown & pay TSA, Secret Service, Coast Guard, FEMA, and other agencies. This is the same legislation supported by Dems and passed by the Senate weeks ago. Speaker Johnson could https://t.co/XEQgz4ng2W”.
In a subsequent message published at 21:38 UTC on April 30th, Hayes commented on surveillance legislation: “Once again I voted no to extend FISA Section 702. I recognize the importance of this legislation, but I will not vote to keep extending FISA when no meaningful action is taken during these extensions to put guardrails in place that safeguard the constitutional & civil liberties https://t.co/cFbmFTZLVX”.
Hayes has represented Connecticut’s 5th District since replacing Elizabeth Esty in 2019. She was born in Waterbury in 1973 and currently resides in Wolcott. Hayes holds a Bachelor’s degree from Southern Connecticut State University.
