Jahana Hayes, U.S. Congresswoman representing Connecticut’s 5th district since 2019, marked the anniversary of the January 6 Capitol attack and highlighted recent community events in a series of posts on her official social media account.
On January 6, 2026, Hayes reflected on the events at the Capitol five years prior, stating, “Today, we remember the violent insurrection at the Capitol that occurred on Jan 6, 2021. Speaker Johnson has refused to hang the memorial plaque honoring Capitol Police so I have a copy on display outside of my office. We voted to hang a plaque in honor of these brave officers,” (January 6, 2026).
Later that day, she expressed condolences for another member of Congress by posting, “Praying for the LaMalfa family during this very difficult time.” (January 6, 2026).
On January 7, Hayes recognized military service members from previous generations. She wrote: “We were honored to recognize Korean War-era veterans in Plainville. The ceremony was a meaningful opportunity to honor their service, sacrifice, and lasting legacy of courage and commitment to our nation.” (January 7, 2026).
Hayes has served as a member of Congress since succeeding Elizabeth Esty in Connecticut’s Fifth District in 2019. Born in Waterbury in 1973 and currently residing in Wolcott, she holds a bachelor’s degree from Southern Connecticut State University.
