Jahana Hayes, U.S. Congresswoman representing Connecticut’s 5th district since 2019, recently used her social media platform to address issues ranging from women’s equality to economic pressures on Connecticut families and small businesses.
On August 26, 2025, Hayes posted a message in recognition of Women’s Equality Day: “Women’s Equality Day stands as a testament to the resiliency & strength of women everywhere. From the suffrage movement to the first woman to become Vice President, we will continue the work until we achieve true equality.”
The following day, she encouraged constituents to stay informed about her activities in Congress by subscribing to her newsletter. On August 27, 2025, she wrote: ” From your inbox to your feed I’m bringing you the Weekly Wrap, a recap of my week in Congress and highlights of my work. Subscribe today to receive my full newsletter and stay informed on how my work impacts you https://t.co/6jHqoW9cPP”
Later that same day, Hayes addressed economic concerns affecting local residents and businesses: “Nearly 1-in-3 US businesses, including more than 31% of those located in Connecticut, expect to raise prices in the next 6 months. Tariffs are directly increasing costs, which are being passed on to consumers. CT families & small businesses deserve better than policies that”
Hayes has represented Connecticut’s 5th district since succeeding Elizabeth Esty in 2019. Born in Waterbury in 1973 and currently residing in Wolcott, she graduated from Southern Connecticut State University with a BA in 2005.
