Jahana Hayes, a U.S. Congress member representing Connecticut’s 5th district since 2019, recently shared several updates on her social media platform. Hayes, who succeeded Elizabeth Esty in 2019, is actively engaged in legislative efforts and community recognition.
On May 9, 2025, Hayes highlighted the introduction of the Hands Off Medicaid & SNAP Act. According to her tweet, “The Hands Off Medicaid & SNAP Act would block the largest cuts to Medicaid & SNAP in US history.” She noted that 35 House Democrats have signed a discharge petition aimed at forcing a vote on this bill to safeguard health care and food assistance for vulnerable Americans rather than providing tax breaks.
Later that day, Hayes took to social media again during National Nurses Week. In her post, she stated: “During #NationalNursesWeek, we recognize the skilled & compassionate care nurses provide across #CT05. Thank you for your dedication & commitment to creating a healthier world.”
On May 10, 2025, Hayes welcomed a volunteer from Peace Corps Volunteers of Connecticut to her office. She expressed appreciation for the volunteer’s service abroad and shared projects through another tweet: “We welcomed a volunteer from Peace Corps Volunteers of CT to our office to share her service abroad and the projects which provided a unique perspective along the journey.”
Jahana Hayes was born in Waterbury, Connecticut in 1973 and currently resides in Wolcott. She graduated from Southern Connecticut State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2005.
