Jahana Hayes, U.S. Congresswoman representing Connecticut’s 5th district since 2019, recently addressed several national and international issues through a series of posts on her social media account.

On September 3, 2025, Hayes announced her support for efforts to bring transparency regarding the Jeffrey Epstein case. She wrote, “CT05 your Congresswoman has signed this discharge petition The Epstein survivors deserve justice and the American people demand transparency. #ReleaseTheEpsteinFiles”.

The following day, September 4, she criticized proposed cuts to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) under HR 1. In her post, she stated: “New data puts the cruelty of Republican SNAP cuts on full display. HR 1 will: Take food from 40 million families, children, seniors & veterans Increase state cost sharing, paving the way for states to restrict eligibility End a 50-year commitment to feed”.

Later that same day, Hayes called for urgent humanitarian assistance in Gaza. She posted: “I joined 102 of my colleagues in demanding that Secretary of State Marco Rubio use the full power of the United States to immediately facilitate humanitarian aid, specifically baby formula, into Gaza. No child should face the desperation & suffering we are witnessing in Gaza.”

Hayes succeeded Elizabeth Esty as representative for Connecticut’s 5th district in 2019 and is known for her advocacy on issues affecting families and children. Born in Waterbury in 1973 and currently residing in Wolcott, Hayes graduated from Southern Connecticut State University with a BA in 2005.
