Jahana Hayes, U.S. Congresswoman representing Connecticut’s 5th district since 2019, recently addressed a series of issues in her latest posts on social media, focusing on education department layoffs, her commitment to constituents, and healthcare policy debates.
On October 14, 2025, Hayes raised concerns about federal education staff reductions, posting: “Education Sec. McMahon’s latest round of layoffs is depleting the Dept. responsible for special education services for 7.5M students. This is the office that implements the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, a federal law that ensures millions of students with”.
Later the same day, Hayes reflected on her role as a representative: “Tonight, as I lock up my office I am reminded what a privilege it is to be your Congresswoman. CT05 shows up for me, and I will continue showing up for you.”
The following day on October 15, she commented on legislative priorities in Washington: “.@housedemocrats are here in DC ready to cancel the cuts, lower the costs, and save healthcare. Republicans are still no where to be found.”
Hayes has represented Connecticut’s 5th District since succeeding Elizabeth Esty in 2019. Born in Waterbury in 1973 and now residing in Wolcott, she earned her BA from Southern Connecticut State University in 2005.
