Jahana Hayes, U.S. Congresswoman representing Connecticut’s 5th district since 2019, addressed a range of policy issues in a series of tweets posted on April 16 and 17, 2026.
On April 16, Hayes highlighted the role of the Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) in assisting Americans with health and retirement plans as well as claim denials. She wrote: “The Benefits Advisors at the Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA) serve all Americans – assisting with everything from navigating health and retirement plans to handling claim denials. Despite the tremendous return on investment, the Admin is proposing $10 million https://t.co/bkV6xXV7is”.
Later that day, she commented on state-level regulatory approaches to sports betting and prediction markets. In her tweet dated April 16, she stated: “States that have legalized sports betting have regulatory frameworks to protect the integrity of the sport and the consumer. CFTC should be working with states to strengthen regulatory frameworks for prediction markets, not defending them in court. https://t.co/EPk0ZYv09n”.
On April 17, Hayes shared an exchange regarding gun violence as a public health issue. Quoting her question to RFK Jr., she posted: “Hayes: Mr. Secretary since you were sworn in and now have full visibility of the harm of gun violence to children, has your position changed? Do you believe firearm violence is a public health crisis?
RFK Jr: ‘I believe it’s a public health crisis’
Now use your role as HHS https://t.co/29uXTrWCHY“.
Hayes was born in Waterbury, Connecticut in 1973 and currently resides in Wolcott. She earned her BA from Southern Connecticut State University in 2005. She succeeded Elizabeth Esty when elected to Congress and has focused her legislative efforts on education, public safety, and social welfare during her tenure.
