Jahana Hayes, a member of the U.S. Congress representing Connecticut’s 5th district since 2019, shared her views on recent legislative developments via social media on March 25, 2025. Hayes addressed issues concerning market stability and educational protection in a series of posts.

In a tweet posted at 20:19 UTC, Hayes emphasized the importance of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) for market stability. She noted that even a Republican witness agreed with the House Agriculture Democrats that merging the CFTC with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) would have negative consequences for consumers. “The CFTC is vital for market stability. Even the Republican witness agrees with @HouseAgDems – Merging the CFTC and the SEC would negatively impact consumers”

Later, at 20:55 UTC, Hayes announced that she had presented her Department of Education Protection Act for a vote on the House floor. She criticized Republicans’ calls to dismantle the agency responsible for ensuring transparency and accountability as incoherent while they debated related legislation. “Today I offered my Department of Education Protection Act for a vote on the House Floor. As Republicans debate legislation they claim will improve transparency and accountability- calls to dismantle the very agency tasked with these protections are incoherent.”

At 21:18 UTC, Hayes expressed disappointment after House Republicans voted against considering her bill aimed at maintaining the integrity of the Department of Education and providing students with quality education. “As expected – House Republicans voted AGAINST consideration of my bill, the Department of Education Protection Act, to maintain the integrity of the Department & give students the education they deserve.”
