Jahana Hayes, U.S. Congresswoman representing Connecticut’s 5th district since 2019, addressed issues ranging from technology in education to concerns about military mobilization and the impact of government shutdowns on schools in a series of posts on her official social media account.
On November 18, 2025, Hayes posted about the role of artificial intelligence in education, stating, “AI is the future of technology. We must be forward-thinking about how we can best teach students and ensure educators have the necessary training and resources to facilitate that learning.”
The following day, she commented on a meeting with veterans brought by the ACLU to Capitol Hill: “ACLU was on the Hill and they brought veterans from CT05 who expressed deep concern about the mobilization of the military in American cities. Thank you for a meaningful & engaging conversation and the reminder of the erosion of trust occurring in our communities.” This post highlighted concerns among local veterans regarding military presence within U.S. cities.
Later that same day, Hayes criticized efforts by Secretary McMahon and House Republicans concerning recent educational policy debates: “In their ongoing effort to delegitimize the Department of Education, Secretary McMahon and House Republicans are pushing the narrative that the 43 day government shutdown had no effect on education. The people who actually do the work of educating our children know differently.”
Hayes has represented Connecticut’s 5th District since succeeding Elizabeth Esty in 2019. Born in Waterbury, Connecticut in 1973, she currently resides in Wolcott and holds a BA from Southern Connecticut State University (source: FACTS FOR STEP 4).
