Jahana Hayes, U.S. Congresswoman representing Connecticut’s 5th district since 2019, addressed a range of issues in her recent social media posts, including health care policy, a statement on an ICE shooting in Minneapolis, and the anniversary of the Tucson shooting that injured former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords.
On January 8, 2026, Hayes advocated for the extension of Affordable Care Act tax credits by stating: “We have to protect health care for millions of Americans by voting to extend Affordable Care Act tax credits for three years. Despite years of protest, Republicans have not introduced any other plan.”
Later that day, she posted a brief message referencing an official comment on an incident involving U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in Minnesota: “My statement on the ICE shooting in Minneapolis.” The post did not elaborate further on the contents of her statement.
In another post commemorating the January 8 anniversary of the Tucson shooting, Hayes wrote: “We gathered today to mark 15 years since the cowardly act of political violence which left six people dead and gravely injured Congresswoman Gabby Giffords. We remember this day and recommit ourselves to ending the scourge of gun violence.”
Hayes has represented Connecticut’s 5th District since replacing Elizabeth Esty in 2019. She was born in Waterbury, Connecticut in 1973 and currently resides in Wolcott. Hayes graduated from Southern Connecticut State University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 2005.
