Following a partnership between the Town of New Canaan and the New Canaan Community Foundation, twenty-six American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) sub-grants were presented to local non-profits serving the New Canaan community that were identified as being negatively impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic.

The awards – totaling $582,600 – span an array of themes such as Arts, Culture, Tourism, Economic Development, Behavioral Health, Community Support, Domestic Violence, Environment, Sustainability, Food Security and town resources.  The grant funding is one of several rounds of allocations of ARPA funds by the Town of New Canaan for which the Town received approximately $6M in ARPA funds that were to be used for government spending as well as toward local economic development and to support local non-profit agencies and local businesses.  The New Canaan Community Foundation partnered with the Town to facilitate a grant application and review process for a portion of the funds.

“New Canaan’s non-profit community provides a host of essential services to our community and is at the core of what makes New Canaan so special and unique. The Town of New Canaan is committed to supporting these organizations as they support our residents and our community at large.  Through these sub-grants, we can ensure that New Canaan has a better, brighter future that ensures safety, economic opportunities and human services support for all” says First Selectman Kevin Moynihan.

Lauren Patterson, President & CEO of the New Canaan Community Foundation commented that “the Foundation was pleased to play an advisory role to the Town in its allocation of ARPA dollars. New Canaan is fortunate to have leading nonprofit organizations both providing critical services, like health and mental health care, as well as organizations enhancing the lives of our residents through avenues like the arts and environment. It is notable and exemplary that our Town invested significant ARPA dollars in our nonprofits – a testament to their value in our community.”Please contact Tucker Murphy at Tucker.Murphy@newcanaanct.gov or 203-594-3002 for additional information.
